FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • When it comes to your outfit for a session, I absolutely love helping my clients with this part, and understand the confidence the perfect outfit can give you. It is so important that you feel amazing and powerful in what you are wearing, so please feel free to send a photo of your outfit if you need any assistance and have fun with it! Let yourself wear something you normally wouldn't gravitate to, allow yourself to be the star of the show just this one time. Solid colors such as coral, yellow, red, orange, hunter green, seafoam green, lavender, cream, black & tan complement the scenic backdrops really well. Anything flowy, boho chic, elegant or minimal works really well. I do strongly encourage staying away from Aloha gear. I know, I know, you can only wear this in Hawaii, but save it for the luau, I promise your photos will be better for it.

  • Yes, of course! I cannot tell you how many times I have gone into a session with someone not liking the camera, and by the time we are done they do not want to stop! One of my favorite parts about being a photographer is giving people a space to feel safe and expressive. I am confident during our time together you will feel safe enough to open up, and if there is anything I can do leading up to our session that will make you or your loved one feel more comfortable, please let me know. I promise to treat you with kindness, encourage you, & be vulnerable with you so you may be vulnerable with me. This is your time, and I am your biggest hype woman. You are safe with me.

  • Working around the weather is something I am very used to and flexible with in Hawaii. Sometimes that means rescheduling when the weather is not ideal, so do not worry! I always do my best to work within your schedule if we need to switch things around.

  • This is an extremely important one to me, and anyone who has worked with me can attest to this. Since I am a natural light photographer (and typically do not use any flash) ideal lighting is crucial to me and I work very closely with direct sunlight. If it is a bright and sunny day, do not be surprised if I put you in a lot of random shady, backlit spots. Or even better, shooting when it is overcast is absolute prime lighting for me. I promise it will be for the greater good of your photos. We welcome all cloudy days here.

  • I use a lot of different techniques, but everyone is not the same, and I honor that with each client. I love posing prompts, so you can focus more on the interactive moments that create natural expressions, and less on the everything needing to be perfect. That is definitely not my style, because I have great appreciation for the authentic moments of life, and adore capturing them. With that being said, I am a sucker for the soft, dramatic and romantic posing, and always incorporate that into my sessions so there is a little of everything. Of course if there is a style you prefer, I always want to know prior so we can make it happen.

  • Yes! The more creative the better. If there is something you want to try, a place you want to hike, or anything that you have in mind, there is a 10/10 chance I will do my best to accommodate your vision. I love trying new things and am always excited when we get to co create something new together.

  • Sunrise or sunset, all the way! The first hour right after sunrise, or the last hour before sunset. Unless it's overcast, then anytime of the day would work, but typically I do not book outside of sunrise or sunset just to be sure the lighting is ideal to work with. I am a big advocate of morning sessions as well. The locations are less crowded, the lighting is soft, and the temperature is cooler.

  • Great question! Most of my locations I scout out specifically on my own time. As an avid nature lover myself, I look for areas that are more remote, away from a lot of people, beautifully scenic and have a lot of contrast to work with. I am very passionate about representing the beauty of Big Island, so I love to showcase the beautiful lava rocks or take you somewhere more off grid in my sessions. I am very familiar with the island, so if there is a preference you have, I will always offer unique locations for you to choose from. If you prefer the rainforest, ocean, or need me to travel to your hotel or airbnb, I have got you covered too.

TO THE ONES I HAVE YET TO KNOW & CANNOT WAIT TO MEET.

  • Working with Loryn was the least stressful part of our trip planning process!

Within 2 weeks we needed to change flights, accommodations, and trip itinerary for our 10 year wedding anniversary trip. We also wanted some pictures to commemorate this wedding milestone! Loryn got back to us right away with her availability during our visit to the Big Island. She stayed in contact with us about location options, weather and timing. We adjusted our timing with her slightly to have the smallest chance of rain. She immediately made us feel at ease as soon as we met her. She gave great input for posing and made my husband feel very comfortable even though he doesn't love getting pictures done. She was the best "hype woman" for us both and it was so fun to work with her. There was a sprinkling of rain during our shoot and Loryn found a spot for us to take cover and stay dry. She went above on beyond on spending extra time taking pictures and giving us more edited photos back than we expected! She also gave great local recommendations for where to eat and drink. We were so happy with all the photos she took and how quickly she was able to get them back to us. If you are on the Big Island and looking for professional pictures, look no further than Loryn!

Loryn made us feel so comfortable and it was SO FUN!! My husband doesn't really like to have his photos taken, but he said afterwards how fun it was!! I was so thankful! Loryn captured us in so many beautiful candids that really show how we interact together naturally! Oh and her edits are so beautiful and our jaw dropped when we saw them!! Thank you Loryn, you're the BEST!!!

  • Loryn is a genuinely sweet soul.

She absolutely made my family and I feel very comfortable in front of the camera. She is professional, kind, and very down to earth. My family and I loved having her as our photographer, and if we could hire her again, we definitely would. It was a little trip to Kona for my husband’s work, so I decided to Google photographers in the area. Luckily, Loryn was the only one available for the time and date we needed. It was like she was meant to be our photographer. We are very appreciative for Loryn, and we loved how she was very calm, and already had the vision of where to shoot our photos. It was the perfect location, the perfect sunrise, the perfect day with Loryn. She is absolutely a gem!

  • Loryn is one of the kindest most genuine people we have ever met.

She is passionate not only about her work, but she is passionate about serving her clients in a way that is true and natural to who they are and who she is. Loryn was such a delight to work with. Her abilities to connect with my husband and I made the entire process so special and one we will forever cherish. We can truly say meeting Loryn was a part of our Hawaii experience that touched our lives forever.

  • Loryn is a fantastic photographer.

She has a natural ability to connect which helps bring the best out of her clients. She is professional at coaching clients to make them look and feel their best. The attention to detail in the editing shows in the final results. Loryn will always be my first choice for all future professional photography needs!

  • I am beyond thankful for Loryn and her ability to not only make us feel comfortable and happy, but the quality of her photos as well.

The undeniable talent she possess behind the camera is only bolstered by the unapologetic passion she puts on full display for any and everyone she works with. Both me and my husband couldn’t have been happier with our engagement photos. Having grown up with a mother who made her living as a photographer, we constantly had to pose for the camera…needless to say, it go old fast and I must admit that even now I’ve come to dread taking any kind of photos; but not with Loryn. She address my concerns and made sure to progress in a way that didn’t feel controlled or inauthentic. That was an amazing feeling- and now I look forward to booking Loryn for any and all important life events in the future. I cannot wait to see how to she continues to grow and expand on her passion for the art!
